Flatplans

The following designs are the potential ideas I have created for my digipacks. As you will see, the outer back panel on the second design is incomplete. I found it particularly difficult to come up with ideas for this panel, but hope that by re-analysing the two digipacks I previously evaluated, I will be able to create something original. I will now analyse the flatplan digipacks I have created.

Here is the design for my first digipack. When designing this flatplan, I wanted to make sure it would include bold and confident colours and images, this way it would stand out and grab the audiences attention.

Outer Front Panel:

For my outer front panel I decided to incorporate the ideas I discovered from the previous two digipacks I had analysed; by using an image of a close up shot of someones face. I love the idea of using a close up shot, as it appears bold and in your face, which ultimately is my main goal when creating this. The boldness of the red background also jumps out and becomes a key aspect to the overall appearance of the panel. Although I liked the idea of having a dark background (such as that used for Lady GaGa's and FrankMusik's albums), I initially wanted to create something that stood out, as this can constantly be related to the genre of music my song falls under. The brightness of the red appealed to me as it achieves this and what's more, if we use a red Mini Cooper in our video, this will be a prominent aspect, which will ultimately allow my digipack to relate to the video. However, I may opt to change the colour to either blue, green or yellow, as these colours also consist of the elements needed for me to achieve a bold appearance. As you can see I have chosen to place the name of the song over where the mouth should be on my person. I decided to use this effect, as I feel it adds creativeness to the panel and acknowledges it as an inventive piece, instead of dull and unoriginal. When considering the font I will use for the song title, I want to use something that will not only stand out, but something that can easily be related to the genre of music my song falls under. This may involve something edgy, bold and energetic. I would prefer the colour of my font to be black, as I know through previous research that black compliments any colour, leaving me with a productive front outer panel.

When considering props to use for this panel, I liked the idea of blacked out glasses, like those featured on Lady GaGa's album. These appeared a confident feature and I wanted to transfer this onto mine in order to enhance my main image. As you can see around the rim of one of the glasses lens, I have chosen to use different coloured gems in order to improve the visual effect of the panel. I believe that including intricate detail such as this will add to the overall appearance of my digipack and allow it to appear more detailed and complete.

Inner Left Panel:

Designing the inner sections of the digipack are just as important as the outer panels. Although they are not on show for the audience to see until the packaging has been opened, they still feature an important role to the overall appearance of the pack. As you can see from my design, I have chosen to keep my inner sections simplistic, but at the same time artistic. The whole panel will consist of the song title "Gotta Boyfriend" written repeatedly in different colours. Although this idea may seem unexciting and dull, I hope that by changing the font sizes and using several different colours, it will become visually more appealing. The background will be white, allowing for all the colours to compliment each other rather than clash, again giving it a professional look. As for the style of font, it would predominately be the same as that featured on the outer front panel, however, if this appears boring, I may choose to change it in order for it to appear more appealing.

Inner right panel:

The inner right panel will have a similar display to that of the inner left panel. However this time the writing will consist of the artists name - "FrankMusik". The writing will still appear in several different colours and the font size will differ in order to make panel appear more effective. Again the background will be white, allowing for my colours to compliment each other.

Outer Back Panel:

As you can see the outer back panel consists of a random design. I found it extremely difficult to come up with ideas for this particular panel, as I wanted to create something that would appear visually exciting and different to most current back panels. There is no real reasoning for me choosing to use this design and when actually creating my digipack, I will consider other options that allow me to accomplish the above goal.

Again I have chosen to use the same main colours as those featured on my front panel, except this time I have opted to use a second bold colour in the yellow, in order for it to stand out. I am really keen to use bold colours such as these, as I feel they can relate to the genre of music really well and connote positive vibes across to the audience.

For this digipack I decided to substitute a main focal image (such as a picture of the artist), for the track list. By doing this I am allowing the track list to become the most important piece of information on the panel and by using a large and powerful font, this becomes achievable. When designing my digipack on the computer, I want to use a font that connotes a relationship between itself and the style of music featured on the CD. The same font will be used on the outer front panel too, as this display professionalism and allows the digipack to look stylish.

In regards to information such as the barcode and record company information, on this digipack I have chosen to place them on the bottom right hand corner. Although this may appear boring, in order for it to compliment the size of the background design, I figured it would be best to place it in the corner as it is still noticeable and easy for the audience to view, without it pulling their attention away from the other information displayed.

Second Digipack:

Here is my design for my second digipack. As you can see the overall layout of each panel is very different to those featured on my first pack, but through doing this I have been able to develop different ideas as to to what designs go together and which dont.

Outer Front Panel:

I really like the design used for this panel. I decided to incorprate two ideas and combine them as one. The idea of the heart obviously symbolises love, but in relation to the song title "Gotta Boyfriend", it can be associated to the connection a boyfriend and girlfriend share. What's more the lightening bolt going through the heart symbolises the genre of music the song falls under, electro pop. I like the way this panel looks, as it displays a bold and powerful image. I opted to colour the heart green as I wanted it to be unique and different to the stereotypical red heart. In addition the colour green appears striking and vibrant which again allows for the image to become eye catching for its audience. The brightness from the yellow lightening bolt too gives the image an eye catching effect, which ultimately allows the panel stand out. By using bold colours I hope to achieve a unique and memorable digipack and one that can be easily related to not only the theme and title of the song, but also the genre of music it falls under. By layering these colours over a black background, I am not only allowing the colours to blend together, but also the depths of the green and yellow are made to stand out and become more noticeable.

As you can see the title of the song is placed in a scroll. I opted to use this design as it is different and allows the panel to have more visual features. As for the font used for the title of the song, I will use one like I stated for my first digipack above. One that appears energetic and fun. When contemplating which colours I will use for the title, again bold, confident colours will be used. For the design featured on this digipack, maybe either green or yellow or to brighten things up, I may use either red or blue.

Although this panel consists of a fairly simple design, I feel it may be missing something. By this I mean some sort of prop. On my first digipack I included a pair of glasses and although that in itself is simplistic, it adds to the overall image and layout of the pack. When actually designing my pack on the computer, I will take this into consideration and maybe combine ideas from my first digipack with this one.

Inner Left Panel:

When designing this section of the pack I again wanted to leave both this panel and the inner right panel with an eye catching, but simple design. This is how i got the idea to use the diagonal stripes. As you can see, the stripes consist of the same three prominent colours displayed on the outer front panel, however to add effect to this design, the widths of these stripes will vary, providing the panel with a more artistic feel and pattern. I had no particular reason for choosing to use the stripes, but feel it visually appears exciting and bold, which again, is an image I want to create. I am aware that the overall designs on my two inner panels may lack a certain creativity, but my main aim for my digipack is to have both the outer panels steal the limelight and be the main focal image, as it is these two panels that the audience will first notice and first impressions can mean a lot when considering buying something.
Inner Right Panel:
This panel consists of the same design I have used for its neighbouring panel. I am disappointed I was unable to come up with a new design to feature here, but feel that by using a similar design the overall layout of my digipack looks professional. As you can see this time the diagonal stripes start from opposite corners to that of the left panel. I opted to do this, as it allows the panel to look more visually interesting. When actually designing my digipack on the computer, I will incorporate ideas from both this pack and my first one and hope that my two inner panels, will be judge visually exciting and appropriate for this song and genre of music.
Outer Back Panel:
As you can see, for this panel i failed to create a design. Like I stated for my previous digipack, it was this panel that I struggled with the most. Ultimately I want to create a panel that appears eye catching for its audience and consists of features that will compliment and blend well together with the three other panels. I found this hard to do with the three panels I had already created for this digipack and this is one of the reasons I struggled to come up with a design. When actually desigining my digipack on the computer, I am aware that I would like to have a main central image, that appears bold and striking. I am yet to decide on what this image could be, whether it be an image of a person or a drawing I designed like the one featured on the outer back panel of my first digipack stated above. However, whatever image I choose to use, I hope to make visually exciting and fun for the audience to view. The track list will also be placed alongside this image, but again, I will enhance the graphics of the font and size of the text, in order for it to look more appealing and unique. By using techniques such as this I trust that the overall layout of my digipack will look both professional and well done and will unify well with the three other panels of the pack. I am optimistic that the ideas I concoct will fit both the song and genre of music our chosen song falls into and from this, hope to create an original and eye catching final piece.

Flatplan Conclusion:
From analysing my two flatplans, I have been able to develop my ideas and knowledge as to what designs go well together and what doesn't. In addition, I now have several ideas that I feel will enable me to create a well presented digipack that would stand out and catch my intended audiences eye. I hope to incorporate ideas from both digipacks displayed above when designing it on the computer, as I feel this will provide me with my best outcome.
